William Granville and Elizabeth (Mason) Campbell

William Granville Campbell was born October 2, 1799 in South Carolina.  No record has been found on his parents or when he moved to Alabama, however on June 25, 1826 he married Elizabeth Mason.  Elizabeth was born December 20, 1806 and lists her birthplace as South Carolina.  The Campbell’s settled in the Conecuh River area having purchased a total of 160 acres of land on November 29, 1854.  All of their children list their state of birth as Alabama, and the oldest was born in 1827.

In the 1850 census of Covington County, William lists his occupation as a farmer worth $100.  However in the 1850 Agricultural census of the same county he has 70 improved acres, 10 acres unimproved, $200 cash value of farm, value of farming implements and machinery $75, 5 horses, 9 milk cows, 2 working oxen, 6 other cattle, 56 hogs, for a livestock value of $540, 500 bushels of Indian corn, 30 bushels of peas and beans, 200 bushels of sweet potatoes, 50 lbs of butter, 65 lbs of honey and beeswax, value of homemade manufactures $50, value of animals slaughtered $70.

William and his wife had 17 children.  William Granville Campbell passed away on October 11, 1864 and is buried at the Campbell Family Cemetery in Covington County.  His wife passed away in February of 1871 and is buried beside him.
