Document #14

Philadelphia, Dec. 6th 1875

A.W. Falkenthal, Esq.

Dear Sir,

Yours of the 3rd installment is received.  I believe I wrote you I had signed the papers and forwarded them to my sisters to sign and I think they would have done so if Mrs. Smith had staid at home.  I think she had no other business there but the express purpose of interfering in this matter and she succeeded and I am informed that she has gone back and said she would try to go by your place to have a talk with you.  Perhaps ere this reaches you she will be with you.  She intended stopping a few days with some of the friends in Indiana and I fear Uncle Robert will not get to see her.  Since I wrote to you last I wrote to some of the friends in Ohio urging them to sign the papers but have no answers yet.  The papers are still with my sister at Cambridge.  I wrote her to take care of them until I ordered them back.

I will send your letter to her as soon as I learn she has arrived in Leavenworth.  If she calls with you or if you see her at Ellisville, please let me know the result of your conference with her.

                                                                                    Yours Truly,

                                                                                    Alex McCracken
